This is a welcome return to innocence and dreams. It is a time that predates technology which seems to have consumed today's generation. The characters are you and your family members and friends before the realization of responsibility and accountability. Terry Kay's story of the breakup of one's own first love mirrors my own. I hated to be finished with this beautiful story.Product details

The Year the Lights Came On edition by Terry Kay Children eBooks Reviews
Not intriguing enough for me to finish it.
Terry Kay always makes magic writing with his warm southern charm. His books are always a delight.
I really enjoyed this book and will read more of Mr. Kay's books.
Terry Kay has such a range of genre that it is always fun not to know what is coming. This is a great coming of age book set in a fast changing time in history. The book has interesting characters struggling with good and evil in a small rural area in NE Georgia. I loved it.
This is a great well written engaging story about coming of age in the rural south during the time of the REA. It was fun and engaging. I would recommend it to someone looking for a good summer book to read.
I enjoyed this book. My real interest was in the historic moment when the lights came on in Hart County Georgia. But this book was so much more. It give you a lot to think about in metaphors.
I re-read this after a few years. In essence the story held up pretty well. The character development wasn't as convincing the second time around. However Kay's wonderful writing and portrayal of a time and place is very compelling. His understanding of human nature, humor, and sensitivity to societies complexities makes any of his works worth reading
